One of the most beautiful things of being an Orthodox is that the fact that this is The Living Church is so palpable! Children need to know that there are brothers and sisters, which live among us that have looked into the eyes, and have heard the voice, or maybe even touched one of the Saints of the Church. Such a saint is Saint Sophia of Kleisoura, we know of people who have been meeting her every Sunday during their entire childhood. One of our good customers, Stayroula, a Sunday School teacher, lived as a child very close to the Monastery where the Saint lived. As it is the usual thing to do, even today, many families will visit a monastery after Liturgy on Sunday. So, Stayroula, together with others from her village, they would board a truck, and visit the monastery. When Stayroula heard of the news of the publication of this book, she was moved to tears and mentioned how she would see the Saint every Sunday, and how they would refer to her as Yiayia, grandma in Greek. What an experience!
Imagine now how you and your kids visit Greece one day, and you visit her monastery. Imagine if your kids tell the abbess or a nun there that you know the life of Saint Sophia of Kleisoura. We wish we could witness such an encounter!
If you ever meet Dionysios, ask him to tell you how and why we did this book.
May Saint Sophia of Kleisoura, intercede with Christ for our salvation.
Available in English, Greek, Pontic Greek, and, God-willing, soon in Romanian.
