What is the real meaning of life?
Where shall we look for it?
In pleasure and entertainment?
In knowledge?
In riches?
In traveling?
In beauty?
See, what answer the wise, rich, and beautiful princess
Saint Catherine of Alexandria has to give you in this book.
The life of Saint Catherine, the Great Martyr, teaches us that we must look for the true treasure, the meaning of life, but not in the knowledge and the things of this world, nor riches, noble descent, or any other worldly attraction. These are good in themselves, but they all have an expiry date. They do not last. We can only find true happiness and meaning in our lives when our guide is Christ Himself, within the Church founded by the "Bridegroom" of Saint Catherine's eternal soul.
Our saint΄s day, or name day, is when we honor the memory of the particular saint whose name we bear, which in Greece is usually our grandfather΄s or grandmother΄s name. We give joy to our Saints when we arrange to celebrate a liturgy in our church on that day, but even more when we try and become like them in our acts and thoughts. Saint Catherine, for example, rejoices when we try to distinguish good from evil, not according to what people around us think is correct, but taking as our foundation and compass the teachings of Christ through His Saints.
Here are a couple of the many positive comments written about "Saint Catherine":
Adrianne Evans from FL wrote: "Your book Saint Catherine is absolutely beautiful! And not just to look at. I have never read a book that dealt with martyrdom so gently and well, especially for children. It truly conveys the attitude of Psalm 116:15. "Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints."
Connie Krahn We have this book, and my kids and I love it! We love all the books we have from Potamitis! Thank you so much!!!
We commemorate her memory on November 25th.
NB: We have long offered audio CDs as a gift together with some of our beautiful hardcover books. As you probably know, our unchangeable policy is not to produce anything in countries that are declared foes of the Church but only with faithful Orthodox Christians. You cannot imagine how difficult it is to retrieve a CD production unit that fits this prerequisite. We have yet to be able to continue offering you the gift of the audio CD. For that reason, we cannot promise or predict any date of delivery of the audio CD. Will you pray that we do find what is needed?
