December 4. (OC 17).
Saint John of Damascus wrote many critical theological works and hymns that are treasured by the Orthodox and used in the Liturgical cycle of the Church to this day. Amongst other things, he wrote the life of Saint Catherine of Alexandria. He peacefully slept in the Lord in the year 749. We commemorate this great hymnographer and defender of the Faith on December 4. (OC 17). The Miraculous Holy Icon of the Mother of God of Three Hands exists today and can be venerated at the Monastery of Hilandar on Holy Mount Athos, Greece. A few exact copies of the Icon are treasured in different parishes and can be revered worldwide.
